| OUR HISTORY |
The Origins of "Gansevoort Liberty Market"
"Gansevoort Farmers Market" opened the first outdoor produce market for buying and selling regional produce on the site of today's Fort Gansevoort location. As years went by, more meat purveyors moved in and eventually the area was mostly filled by meat produce sellers.
And thus, the name, The "Meatpacking District".
Today, the Meatpacking District is emptied out of meat packers and in return, is hosted by a wide range of fashion designers & faux French restaurants,
And as for Gansevoort Market, it has transferred its concept to a trendy modern food hall and the new named as Gansevoort Liberty Market in the Oculus at Westfield World Trade Center.
